TRAINING TIPS FROM THE PRO'S- Infinity Team (Slater Trout & Dave Boehne)

Hey guys, I have had a lot of you asking about off-season training lately. A lot of people say they do not have a lot of time to train in the off-season due to kids/wife/husband/work/cold weather etc. So I figured what better way to get idea's on training then from the best paddlers in the world?? I know some of them just from going to different events and some of them I just contacted and they were cool enough to help us out with some tips. One of the coolest things about this sport is that even the best paddlers in the world are down to earth. I plan to post tips every few days from different pros that responded. The question I asked them was "if you had less then an hour a day to get a workout (Off Water) what would you do?" Here are their responses

Slater Trout

Not much I can tell you about Slater that you do not already know, the guy is a BEAST!! He also rides for Infinity (which we sell and you are starting to see more and more of in Annapolis as well as the rest of the East Coast!! Boards are sick) Slater is on the podium in every race he enters and is one of the top paddlers in the world. And did I mention he isn't even 20 yet?? He is only going to get better and better which is SCARY. Super cool guy as well. Here is what he had to say

"Stoked your spreading the Infinity boards around the East Coast! I would personally say the generals most simple work outs are the best. When you try and get to complicated/over think stuff it doesn't give you as great of results as the simple stuff does. If i have less than an hour to train and its not on the water, im doing a quick push up, squat, plank, and after stretch routine on my living room floor.
Keeping it very simple and short, but getting the work out I need.

Take Care!

ST"

Thanks Slater

David Boehne-

Dave is Co-Owner of Infinity Surf Boards in Dana Point. If you follow the world of stand up you know who Dave is, he is part of the 1st family of Sup!(His dad Steve has shaped a lot of the Infinity boards you see around Naptown, 2 more due in any day) Dave is also one of the best surfers and paddlers out there!! Everywhere you look he is on top of leader boards, in magazines, movies etc. Dave was also cool enough to respond and help us out, see what he has to say here but then also check out http://www.infinitysurf.com/ for more info on Dave, Slater, and the rest of the Infinity crew. Here is what Dave has to say

"What's up Ben!

ya man, much harder to train and stay motivated in the cold, rain, and darkness...

if i only have an hour, i make sure to train with a purpose. Meaning go out with a specific agenda and knock it out. Weather it be sprints (because you can't paddle all that far in an hour), intervals 30/30's, or working on technique.

Concentrate on specifics for that hour instead of trying to cram a bunch of different things in. I paddle with a GPS every time. I have goals of MPH i want to maintain depending on what i am doing.

if i can't event get a workout in because of life, work, kids, daylight savings etc... i will at the very least stretch at home and use the foam roller to keep injury free and stay nice and loose. If you can't work out you might as well take advantage of the recovery day and really get your body feeling good.

in the end, nothing beats water time. so if i have to choose gym or paddle? the hour on the water wins every time. i hate lifting weights. those things are just too heavy ;) "

Thanks Dave
