A little motivation for ya

Hey guys,

Just wanted to share a motivational story from a local paddler who has been training with us on Tuesdays and Fridays. Her name is Doris Petitti, she was big into outrigger paddling and was a very very strong paddler. She was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago and wasn't sure she would ever be able to paddle again. She pushed through it all and beat it and is now competing in 5 mile sup races and DOING WELL in them. She came in 3rd place in the legends division in DC a few weeks ago. I was talking to her and after hearing what she went through it inspired me and thought it might inspire some of you guys as well to push yourselves a little harder during training or even to just get out and try SUP for the first time. Here was an email I got form her the other day.

"I am psyched about getting a racing board and getting out there to try to be serious about SUP is a big deal for me. I have paddled outrigger for many years and that relies on 6 people in the boat. With SUP it is all up to me, it is more of a challenge. Also, I have had seven surgeries in the last two years and literally have a piece of my lat muscle tunneled through my armpit and attached to my pectoral muscle, so you can imagine what an accomplishment it is for me." She also says "As a breast cancer survivor, not getting out there and doing everything I did before is like letting cancer win and that was not going to happen:-).to do 5 miles on a board:-). I never thought I would paddle anything again."

So next time you feel tired or your sore and you say "ill skip this working out" or "ill skip this paddle" think of this story. GET OUT AND SUP

Great job Doris
