Hey guys got an email from Neil about some upcoming distance events!! If your interested shoot us an email
SUPers, two more distance races coming up, I have done them both they are a lot of fun. Very few SUP boards have done them, it would be great to get the sport some more exposure, I plan to do them both. The Broadkill Race usually gets 100+ fast kayaks and surfskis, it is this Saturday. 10 miles up the Broadkill River in Delaware, from the ocean to the small town of Milton, where they are having their annual festival. It is a beautiful, really interesting paddle as the river goes inland, you see all kinds of terrain and wildlife. Cash prizes too, I usually enter under "single canoe" because there is no SUP category yet (let's try to change that!) They then run a shuttle back to the parking area at the mouth of the Broadkill to take you back to the cars after the race, race starts at 10 a.m., details at www.miltontheatre.org .
The next race is the Wye Island Regatta Sept. 10. This is 12 miles, circumnavigation of Wye Island, about 1/2 hour past Annapolis in Wye Mills, MD. This race has always been a blast, it is open to any type of rowed craft, including rowing shells, outriggers, kayaks, and SUPs. Details at www.annapolisrowingclub.com, click on "Wye Island Regatta".
I thought for both of these races, it would be fun to do them as a "challenge" not a race, just stick together as a group and have fun (maybe sprint the last 1/4 mile to the finish line!) If anyone wants to caravan or ride share, let me know.
Neil
