MASRA
(Mid-Atlantic SUP Racing Association)
MISSION STATEMENT:
•
To promote and encourage the sport of Stand Up
Paddling (SUP) through casual and competitive racing.
•
To include and encourage SUP in other on-water
events so that water enthusiasts may share in these exciting and challenging
pursuits.
•
To promote community based activities which will
ultimately grow awareness for environmental concerns surrounding our waterways
and coastal areas.
•
To nurture an overall appreciation of all types
of paddle activities and an affinity with the growing “ohana” of people who
share in this dynamic sport, one which reflects so perfectly the culture, power
and spirit of the ocean.
MASRA
(Mid-Atlantic SUP Racing Association) was formed in January 2013 between
several race directors in the Mid-Atlantic region to include VA, MD, DC, DE, PA
and WV.
For the
first year, there will be a MASRA point series in which paddlers will compete
against each other in their respected classes/divisions for an overall first
place male and female winner. The
winners will receive a cash pay-out for their award at the end of the 2013
season.
The goal is
to drive participation to key Mid-Atlantic races and to keep the race schedule
from overlapping popular events on common weekends.
Points in each sanctioned race will be distributed in the
following format:
1st Place = 12
2nd Place = 11
3rd Place = 10
4th Place = 9
5th Place = 8
6th Place = 7
7th Place = 6
8th Place = 5
9th Place = 4
10th Place = 3
11th Place = 2
All other places will receive 1 point
Races included in the 2013 series are:
April 20: James River Paddle Challenge, Jamestown, VA
May 19: Dominion River Rock, Richmond, VA
Jun 2: Surf Swap Challenge, Ocean City, MD
Jun 8: SUP Annapolis/Kent Island, Kent Island, MD
Jul 13: Eastport YC/Chesapeake Challenge, Annapolis, MD
Aug 11: Battle on the Bay, Ocean City, MD
Aug 31: Paddle for Humanity, Washington, DC
Oct 12: Sandbridge Hei Hei, Virginia Beach, VA
Other races will be considered as long as they do not
conflict with any of the above dates.
Once an event is approved, the race director will pay a $75
fee to MASRA which will be used for the overall cash prizes.
