Well not only was the Annapolis area well represented but Maryland as a whole tore it up in VA Beach this past weekend. From our crew Denny Grant took 2nd place on his 14' Yolo, he had a rough start and got cut off so he had to make his way back through the pack. He took the lead back and held it for a long time but wasn't sure where to finish at the end and in those few moments a Pro guy from Maine caught a wave and edged him out on the sprint portion by 2 SECONDS!!! What a finish. Brian Meyer killed it also and took 2nd place in the 12'6 elite class and beat most of 14' guys. Chris Sperry was right behind him in 3rd place 12'6 Elite on his Infinity. Fellow Ocean City, MD paddler Ron Gossard came in 1st in the 12'6 Elite so it was a clean sweep of the 12'6 division by Maryland. Neil had another solid race as well coming in the top 10 in the 14' elite and took 2nd in the parent kid race. Greg Lines also did a hell of a job for his first ocean race on his new 14' Infinity. On the women's side Ocean City, MD paddler and now safe to say the fastest female paddler in Maryland Dawn Ehman took the win in the women's elite, followed by Beth Deeley from OC. MD's Rachael Novak also took 1st in the women's surf division. Great job by all the competitors and a BIG SHOUT out to the Gassetts who put on another stellar race. They raised a lot of money for a good cause and a good family!! They also hooked up the house that sup Annapolis took over with all kinds of shwag and food. If you missed this race like I had to this year make sure to mark it on your calender for next year, you won't want to miss it again.
