First off I want to say congrats to Dawn from Oc Sup & Fitness for putting on a GREAT race this past Sunday in Ocean City, MD. The venue was great and the event was very well run! The conditions made it a challenging 5 miles, to start the race you had to paddle the whole time on your left side, then after the first turn you had to paddle the whole time on your right side. After that turn you had a little downwind break and then repeat. Boat waves and strong winds had waves coming from every direction, lots of people were taking the plunge haha. Myself included, I think I fell 4 times and one of those I walked right off the back of my board (worst feeling ever in a race, hope nobody caught it on film haha). All those factors made the race that much better though, what a fun time. There will be another one in the same location in August so if you missed this one you should try to get to that one. Big shout out to Sup Annapolis rider Neil Macindoe, his daughter Katie, and cousin Chip. They cleaned house this weekend, Neil took 1st in the 14', Chip 1st in the 12', and Katie 1st in the kids race!!
Also big shout out to Mark M for coming in 2nd in the 14' and Chris sperry for taking the win on the 12'6 in the 2.5 mile race.
Also want to give a big shout out to Ron Gossard of Ocean City, he KILLED IT out there and was first over all by a good amount. Oh and he was also on a 12'6 board (yes he beat all the 14' guys). Ron is CRAZY fast now and sorry Neil I think Ron now takes the title as the "Fastest paddler in Maryland" but still time for title to switch hands again haha. Good times
On our way down I got to try out some of Thule's new products. Some people I have heard lately say you do not need all the gadgets and they talk bad about them, well you do not need them that is correct but you may want them haha. If you are into things that make traveling with boards easier then come check them out. I had the new Thule sup taxi on top of the truck and the best part about it (besides its ease and speed) is they lock and have a steel cable so I could leave the board on top of the car over night, they are actually cheaper then most of the locking straps you can buy. I also used the new Thule paddle carriers and I was a little Leary about these at first but I am a huge fan now. If you are just driving 5 minutes down the road then you may not even bother with them but when you have a small car or even just a full car of friends, kids, family etc making a long road trip to a race or the beach its nice not to have your paddles in your car. It just gives you a little extra room inside and helps people from having to have paddles over their shoulders or in their face. We can pretty much beat all the big chain store prices so give us a ring.
On to Racing news, I talked with Neil today and got the details on the Kent Island Outrigger and Canoe club's sup Race on June 16th. This is one of the first races ever in MD, its very low key and all about having fun. Perfect way to spend a Saturday

Then lastly our new BOAT HOUSE/RENTAL HUT is open!!! Its for rentals and lessons and its by appointment only, unfortunately its not a public launch site but we will plan to do our Friday AM paddles there very soon. Its a perfect spot on the Severn river, clean water, less boat traffic then downtown, and a nice sandy beach to launch from. It is also in a cove so completely protected from wind and boat waves (6mph zone). We will have some demo's and events there in a week or two.
Details about our 3rd annual Sup Annapolis race in July will be posted this week. Race jerseys and new T's also coming soon.
Hope to see everybody on the water!!! Keep ROCKIN THE ORANGE
