Hey guys, I am looking to start a Saturday morning group paddle every Saturday starting Nov 27th at 12AM, I know a lot of people will be away for the holiday but for those of you that are around come on out. We have a pretty big group of core paddlers who are all training for the Cold Stroke classic in January in NC who will be there, but anybody who has a board and wetsuit is welcome. Paddling in the cold can be dangerous if you are not prepared but as long as you take the right precautions it is perfectly fine, this is a paddle at your own risk group haha. While it is not that cold out yet, here is a basic checklist we follow before paddling in the any kind of cold weather.
1. Always paddle with someone if you can
2. Always wear a thick enough wetsuit (even if you say "I never fall" and you get to hot paddling in one you should always wear one, because never say never)
3. Always carry a cell phone with you, we sell ocean & earth waterproof wallets for cheap that are perfect for cellphones.
4. Always tell somebody before you go what your route will be
5. Always wear a life vest
6. Always listen to yourself, if it doesn't feel right going out don't do it.
If you follow these basic guidelines and have the right protective gear, winter paddling can be awesome. The water is crystal clear and there are very few if any boats out on the water.
If you are interested in the group paddle shoot me an email at Supannapolis@gmail.com to get put on the winter group email list.
